BHUBANESWAR: Fulfilling a long-standing demand of about 25,000 teachers and school employees, the State Government on Tuesday announced enhancement of their salaries. It would cost Rs 72.88 crore per annum to the State exchequer. “The teachers and employees of 1,587 block grant high schools will get 60 per cent of basic salary being given to Government schoolteachers in addition to 11 per cent dearness allowance,” Minister of State for School and Mass Education Pratap Jena announced in the Assembly. The block grant high school teachers, who were till now getting Rs 4,995 as gross salary, would get Rs 8,991 from April 1, 2012. Similarly class-III employees of the schools will get Rs 4,500 per month against the present salary of Rs 3,050. However, the State Government excluded 298 similar schools due to their poor performance in the previous examinations, sources said. Similarly, 224 recognised private high schools in as many gram panchayats will be given 60 per cent of the regular salary of teachers basing on the Fifth Pay Commission award in 1998. They would also get 11 per cent DA.The Government also decided to pay 60 per cent of the grade pay of teachers according to the 6th Pay Commission plus 11 per cent as DA. It would be implemented from the next fiscal, the Minister said.Members, cutting across party lines, had demanded in the Assembly fulfilment of all the demands of the striking teachers of the block grant schools.
