New Delhi: Apparently embarrassed by the contents of senior party leader Jaswant Singh's new book, the BJP is understood to have asked him to remove "misunderstandings" caused by them, if any.
Following the suggestions from the party leaders at Sunday night's NDA meeting, Singh would be meeting the media on Tuesday and responding to all queries related to the issues he had taken up in the book A Call To Honour which hit the stands on July 21, party sources said.
Several party leaders were upset that Singh had diverted the attention from the Mumbai bomb blasts to the Kandahar issue because of the timing of his book release.
"The party was in an offensive position and the government was virtually on the mat over the handling of terror incidents but Singh's book has put us on the defensive," said a senior leader, a view even echoed by RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser' in its latest issue.
Other leaders even charged Singh with "indulging in publicity gimmick for his book at the cost of the party image".
Party leaders were particularly upset over Singh making public the $200 million demand made by the terrorists for the release of IC 814 hostages but remaining silent on whether the amount was paid or not.
Singh is expected to clarify his position at the press meet on Tuesday. The 'revelations' about the 'mole' in PMO during P V Narasimha Rao's premiership, the critical references to the Ayodhya movement and the post-Godhra riots too have not gone down well with the party's second-rung leaders, who felt the senior leader could have avoided them.
