TIRUCHY: A Police Inspector from Andhra Pradesh was detained here on Wednesday for interrogation in connection with the death of his wife, whose body was found with the head smashed at Irungalur on May 22.The 35-year-old woman’s body, bearing signs of sexual assault, was recovered by the Samayapuram police from Irungalur. A team, led by AG Mouria, DIG, Tiruchy range, and comprising Superintendent of Police S Nizamuddin and others visited the spot along with fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs, and found that she had been stoned and strangled. The body was later brought to the GH for identification and a case was registered. In an attempt to trace the identity of the woman, the police flashed her photographs across the State.Meanwhile, a missing woman case was registered at the Tiruvannamalai police station following a complaint by Inspector Sathya Narayana of the Tirupati police station in Andhra Pradesh. Sathya Narayana had stated in his complaint that his wife had gone missing on May 21 while they were resting in their car on their returning trip from Kodaikanal.After the body was recovered, the Samayapuram police called Narayana and held an inquiry on Tuesday. The Inspector identified the body as that of his wife, Malleswari.However, during interrogation, he replies were evasive. This raised suspicion among the police, who took him into custody for further interrogation.On Wednesday, Nizamuddin interrogated Narayana and later took him to the spot where the body was found.Malleswari’s parents are expected to arrive in Tiruchy soon. Superintendent of Police Nizamuddin said the police could come to a conclusion only by Thursday morning after her parents arrive.
