New Delhi: A first-year MBBS student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his hostel room on Saturday, after, claim his friends, facing severe discrimination at the institute.
Anil Kumar Meena hailed from a village in Rajasthan.
His friends are boycotting classes on Monday as a mark of protest. They claim he was struggling to cope with English lectures and had been facing discrimination at the institute because of his background and Hindi-medium education.
They add that Anil was depressed after failing to clear his first year exams.
Anil had secured the second spot in entrance exams in the Scheduled Tribes list. The students are now demanding that the institute's directors resign.
