Accused attempts suicide in police station

SALEPUR: An accused attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in Salepur police station on Thursday. The victim, Narayan Bisoi, of Basudevpur village under Mohana panchayat has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Bisoi was called to the police station for an amicable settlement of a case. A local shopkeeper had filed an FIR against Bisoi  alleging assault. While talks to resolve the issue were underway in the presence of Sarpanch Bijay Behera, Bisoi fell down. He later disclosed that he had consumed pesticide following which police rushed him to Salepur CHC and later to SCB MCH. His condition is stated to be critical. While Bisoi’s family alleged police harassment behind the suicide attempt, the IIC of Salepur police station, Raj Kishor Swain, denied the charge saying Bisoi had consumed pesticide prior to his arrival at police station out of frustration following a family feud.
