BANGALORE: The state government’s claim of making all its office disabled friendly fell apart on Tuesday when the commissioner of disabled welfare department conducted a spot inspection. None of the government offices he visited in Bangalore have basic facilities like ramp and toilets for the disabled.Commissioner K V Rajanna who inspected various government offices has decided to issue notices to the Public Works Department and the BBMP for not providing facilities for disabled persons in various public offices. Rajanna along with his officials visited Vartha Bhavan, Legislative houses, BBMP and BMTC office. Speaking to reporters, Rajanna said that many of the buildings belonging to these offices do not have ramps for wheelchairs. They do not have physically challenged friendly toilets too. Though there are rules to make such provisions, they have not been followed. Not just this, they have not adhered to the High Court order.Rajanna further said that the PWD is lagging behind in the concept of constructing physically challenged offices. “They (PWD officials) take so much care to build their houses. Then why is that they are not keen on constructing pro-physically challenged offices?” he questioned. He said that PWD has not taken the issue seriously.Rajannna said that the High Court had ordered them to abide by the rules and make provision for the physically challenged. “But the PWD and  the BBMP officials have mislead the Court by telling that they have made the provision. We are sending notice to these departments as well as bring it to court notice,’’ he added.
