BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda expressed displeasure against former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde for repeatedly going to the media and trying to corner politicians on all issues. “Craze for publicity does not behove the august office he (Hegde) held in the past, including the post of Supreme Court judge. Sometimes it is nauseating. The tone and tenor of his talk looks like that he has axe to grind,” a visibly upset chief minister said in response to the questions posed by the media on Thursday. According to Gowda, Justice Hegde has not replied why he chose to enquire about the illegal mining between 2006 -10 and not from 2000-10 as sought by the government. “I am not bothered who was the chief minister at that time. But has he (Hegde) bothered to reply to this issue? If this makes one feel that he has an agenda if not vested interests, what is wrong?” the chief minister asked. The chief minister clarified that he has not made any adverse comment or cast aspersions on the integrity and probity either of the sitting judges or retired ones. “I only said that we had obtained a list of 27 judges who fit the requirement of Lokayukta of which we have selected two and recommended to the govenror. That does not mean I have made sarcastic comments on the remaining 25 people.”He said the Governor has written a letter to him on the issue of appointing Lokayukta but he has not looked into it as he returned from Mumbai this morning. “I have called the Advocate General for a detailed discusssion on the Governor’s letter, and will decide shortly,” he said.
