New Delhi: Liverpool have kept their hopes of some silverware this season alive with a 3-0 win against Lille in the second leg of their Round of 16 game on Thursday to to book their place in the last eight at Anfield.

The Reds got up on the scoreboard in the ninth minute itself as Steven Gerrard had no problems in converting a penalty in his 300th appearance as captain. Fernando Torres took his Premier League form into the match as he struck twice, both in the second half of the game.

His first goal in European competition this season came in the 49th minute with great finishing. The Spanish striker made the scoreline read 3-0 at the end of the game in the 90th minute, latching onto a rebound and finding the net.

The win came on the day that Spanish international Albert Riera had described the Merseyside club as a "sinking ship" and claimed that compatriot Benitez did not talk to him.
