The January transfer window will likely see Arsenal make some moves to sign a star striker this season. While Mikel Arteta’s men have been nothing but brilliant in the ongoing Premier League campaign, the team could use the services of a precise striker. The Gunners have recently conceded losses to West Ham and Fulham in their previous games, showing a dip in their form. However, with the January transfer window now being officially open, Arteta can finally make some business moves. Premier League striker Ivan Toney has been strongly linked with the London-based side and Nigerian forward Victor Bonafice is also reportedly on the cards of the Spanish coach.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal got themselves in a much better position since signing Gabriel Jesus back in 2022. Having formed a great partnership with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, Jesus has been a top performer at the club. While he might have been good in the last couple of seasons, Jesus certainly never stood in contention for the Premier League top scorer like Erling Haaland, Hueng-min Son or Mo Salah. This has forced Arteta to now look for a lethal attacker who can bag at least 20 goals or more in one season to reinforce Arsenal’s chances of lifting the Premier League title.
Ivan Toney has been one of the prime candidates for Arsenal this season with Brentford reportedly wanting around £100 million for their player. They also face some tough competition for the player’s signature from teams like Chelsea and Tottenham. The second striker Arsenal have their eyes on is Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Bonafice. The ongoing football season has seen Bonafice emerge as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe. Having moved from Belgium in the summer of 2023, Boniface smashed 16 goals in 23 appearances in his current season in Germany. Only Harry Kane has scored more goals than the Nigerian in Bundesliga this year.
While Victor Bonafice might be talented in front of the goal, he’s had some fitness issues in the past few years. The 23-year-old had already suffered from two ACL injuries which could be a major sign of concern. Among new transfer prospects, a departure of Thomas Partey has also been on the cards. However, with no interest in the player from other clubs, an exit now seems unlikely. As per Italian media outlet CalcioMercato, Juventus opted against signing the midfielder despite being on the club’s radar for the past few months. The Ghana international has only managed five appearances all season for Arsenal and is currently recovering from a thigh injury. It will be interesting to see what the future has on hold for the Gunners star.
