New Delhi: Air India's football outfit seems to be a mirror image of the airline that is desperately trying to ensure it continues to fly.

Air India's coach Yusuf Ansari made no bones about the fact that his first aim was to ensure that his side picks up the minimum numbers of points as soon as possible in order to save themselves from relegation.

"we want to save ourselves from relegation first. From thereon, where we go we will decide," Ansari said.

In the three games they have played so far, Air India have lost one and drawn two. They lost their opener 1-2 against Mumbai FC. They then held Viva Kerala to a 1-1 draw and Chirag to a 0-0 draw.

The eighth-placed Air India side will take on the 11th-placed ONGC in their next game on Friday.

Air India's coach though has made some smart buys ahead of the season as he brought in Colin Abranches from Mahindra United, Sukhwinder Singh from Salgaocar FC, and Alex Ambrose and Darren Caldeira from Mumbai FC.

Air India had avoided being relegated in the previous season by getting the minimum points on the last day of the season and will surely hope that the new buys will give them the much-needed wings to soar in this season.
