Adhyayan Suman to Direct Biopic Soon, Breaks Silence on Heeramandi 2: 'Bhansali Sir Has Said...' | Exclusive
Adhyayan Suman reveals his directorial plans - a big biopic and a love story titled Ae Ajnabee. He had stopped working on the latter due to financial issues.

Adhyayan S Suman recently witnessed the biggest success in his 16-year long career with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. And he’s all set for the next phase of his career. The actor looks forward to essaying meatier roles and prove his detractors wrong. He has a bunch of releases lined up in the upcoming months. To add to that, he will soon be making his directorial debut.

In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he spills the beans on his maiden venture as a director. “I’ll be making my debut as a director with a biopic that I’ll also produce. I can’t tell you whose biopic it is yet but it will be a big and exciting project,” reveals the Haal-e-Dil and Raaz 2: The Mystery Continues actor.

And this isn’t the only project he will be directing. At present, he’s also working on another script that he has been planning on bringing to life for the longest time but hasn’t been able to. “I’m directing a love story called Ae Ajnabee. I had written this about seven years ago and currently, I’m at the scripting stage. I had stopped working on it because of financial constraints. I also felt like it wasn’t the right time. Right now is the time to make it,” he says.

Initially, the film was titled Airport and last year, Adhyayan had told us that he’s busy penning the dialogues. Divulging details about the same, he had shared, “It’s a coming-of-age, slice-of-life film about two people who meet on a flight. I wanted to direct it for the longest time. I might even be acting in it but I haven’t decided that yet.”

Interestingly, the 36-year-old further plans on buying the rights and remaking two of his father Shekhar Suman’s films. “I want to do a remake of either Anubhav or Utsav. I’ve been wanting to do either of the two films for a long time now. I’ve been telling my father that I want to direct one of them. I need to go and get the rights for Anubhav. I want to remake it because it’s a cult classic comedy. People loved it then and they’ll love it now. It was way ahead of its time,” he remarks.

On a related note, Utsav marked the acting debut of his father. It was an erotic thriller that released in 1984 and was produced by Shashi Kapoor. The film saw Shekhar sharing screen space with Rekha. Anubhav, on the other hand, had a lukewarm response upon release in 1986 but grabbed attention for its steamy scenes between Shekhar and late actor Richa Sharma.

And what about Heeramandi 2? “It’s something Bhansali sir has spoken about. He has unofficially said that season two will happen as he wants to work with the cast of the show again. Isse badhkar humaare liye aur kuch nahi ho sakta. He also said that the nawabs will be in focus. So that’s exciting,” says Adhyayan.
