Amitesh Kumar, the Pune Police Commissioner graduated with a degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. Other than this, he completed a postgraduate degree in cyber law. In 1995, Amitesh Kumar cracked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He placed 59th on the All India Merit List after taking this exam. Amitesh Kumar was then designated as a Maharashtra cadre Inspector of Police.

After completing his IPS training and passing the UPSC exam Amitesh Kumar was sent to the Solapur district of Maharashtra. In 1997, he was appointed as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ACP). He was thereafter appointed as Aurangabad Rural’s Superintendent of Police, or SP. He served as Amravati district’s SP for a while as well. After this, he was assigned to the position of Nagpur Deputy Commissioner. He moved to Mumbai after that and became the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

In addition, Amitesh Kumar served as the Special Inspector General of Police (Aurangabad region) and Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS). Amitesh Kumar also revealed how the Naxalites were smuggling firearms. He had described the process by which arms were trafficked from Bihar to Andhra Pradesh. In recognition of his efforts, Amitesh Kumar has received the President’s Medal.
