We are from the generation that witnessed the severe pandemic of Covid-19. After that, many changes occurred in schools and corporate life. In the same situation, a university in Aligarh changed the procedure of its examination from written to OMR-based. The university will now conduct written exams for the students.
Students will have to appear for the written exams in the new session 2024-25 of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University, located in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The exam will not be conducted on an optical mark recognition (OMR) sheet. Actually, since the COVID period, the exam has been conducted on the OMR sheet only. But from this session, the exam will be conducted in written form.
RMPSU Vice Chancellor Prof. Chandrashekhar said that the session 2024–25 exam will be in written form in November. The preparation is going on for the same and the work will start on the university campus in a month or two.
He further said that there are about 364 colleges affiliated with the university in Aligarh, Etah, Kasganj and Hathras. The COVID period started at the end of the year 2019 with a peak in 2020. So, the 2019-20 batch of students were promoted without examination. It was not possible to examine the students at that time. From the 2020-21 batch, the examinations are being conducted on OMR sheets. The batches of 2022-23 and 2023-24 also appeared for the OMR based examination.
The educationists were not in favour of conducting exams on OMR sheets in higher education. They had also requested to end it. On this, the university administration also argued at that time that they did not have resources because the university building was under construction. Now the university has clarified that the practice of conducting exams on OMR sheets is going to end now.
