The government has appointed Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, IPS (BH:90), as the new Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Bhatti will hold the post till his retirement on September 30, 2025. Earlier, Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the new Director General of Bihar Police in 2022. Bhatti, who was then serving as ADG (East Command) of the Seema Suraksha Bal on central deputation, will succeed SK Singhal, who will retire on December 19. Bhatti’s appointment, announced on Sunday, is aimed at tackling crime and liquor smuggling in the state.
Popularly known as RS Bhatti, he has a distinguished record in law enforcement. He rose to prominence for arranging the arrest of former Siwan MP Md Shahabuddin in 2005. In his earlier career, Bhatti served in various capacities in Bihar, including as City SP of Patna, ASP of Barh and SP in Jehanabad, Gopalganj and Purnia. He has also held positions as DIG (Siwan), IG (Patna Zone), IG (Security), Joint Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Director General (Civil Aviation).
“Known as a tough master of duties and a no-nonsense police officer, Bhatti will replace SK Singhal, who retires on December 19,” said the notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Chaitanya Prasad. Bhatti’s reputation for diligence and strict enforcement is expected to improve policing in Bihar.
Bhatti gained national recognition after ensuring the arrest of Md Shahabuddin from his Delhi house in November 2005. He stood out for his efficient planning and execution of the operation, especially since Shahabuddin’s strong political influence had prevented any arrest earlier.
“During his tenure as ASP of Barh, Bhatti had arrested the then RJD MP and strongman Dilip Kumar Singh from his residence in Patna,” the sources said. Dilip Kumar Singh, a minister during the Lalu Prasad regime, was the elder brother of former MLA Anant Kumar Singh.
