Often, underprivileged or children from humble backgrounds, lag in education due to the unaffordability of relevant resources. In studying for competitive exams, one needs to have various study materials and books. In Sector 15, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, there is a library from where any book can be borrowed at a fee of just Rs 120.
Students who are preparing for competitive exams can come to this public library. As per reports, 45 to 50 students study from the materials available here and become officers annually. This particular library is the only one in the entire district. As per Mahesh Saxena, the Noida Public Library was established in 2002.
The Noida Public Library is the first public library in Gautam Buddh Nagar, where students from financially weak backgrounds go to borrow books for their studies due to its low fees. At least 280 students come here to study for various entrance or competitive exams. Last year, as per Mahesh Saxena, 52 students studying there got proper jobs and are receiving training. What’s almost impossible to believe is its low registration fees of just Rs 120.
There are about 80,000 books available in this vast library. Students can find books on almost every subject and religion here. The primary source of their books is the local students, who donate them after passing an entrance or competitive exam, they donate the books to the library. The librarian then ensures that only those books are kept here which will be useful to the students and the others are returned.
As per Mahesh Saxena, the Noida Public Library does not get much of government facilities like the public library in Delhi. He said that Noida is a densely populated city and its library has a seating capacity of just 280 students, which is a matter of concern for them. They have informed the local government and administration, but there has been no response and no budget has been allocated for this either. Instead, it is the local people who have been extending full support to the library.
