British Council Announces Scholarships For Women In STEM Programs At UK Universities
A total of 25 scholarships are reserved for women in the STEM programmes, hailing from India and other South Asian countries.

The British Council, in collaboration with various UK universities, has recently unveiled the launch of British Council Scholarships targeting women pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) programs. A total of 25 scholarships have been earmarked for women hailing from India and other South Asian countries. Participating UK universities include Queen Mary University of London, Anglia Ruskin University, Greenwich University, The University of Southampton and Coventry University.

Scholarship

The scholarship encompasses coverage for tuition fees, travel expenses, visa fees, health coverage and English language support. Women pursuing programs such as Data Science, Computer Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, Civil Engineering Management and Intelligent Healthcare are eligible for this opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria have been outlined for potential applicants. Candidates must be enrolled in UK universities for the September/October 2024-25 academic year, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM program and have passed an English language test like TOEFL. Additionally, applicants are required to have relevant work experience in their field.

Deadline

The application deadline varies across universities but falls between March and April. Interested candidates can apply online through the official website at britishcouncil.in.

The British Council Scholarships for Women seek to inspire and support female students in STEM fields, aiming to foster their advancement in the domain. Notably, the UK ranks third globally for citable research, with 55.2% of all UK publications attributed to it.

Media reports indicate that since 2020, the council has awarded over 300 scholarships, with 92 scholars enrolled in selected courses in 2023 alone. Economic Times data highlights that 52 Indian women have been recipients of the scholarship, pursuing one-year post-graduate studies in the UK thus far.
