WATCH: Unicorn Balloon Halts Play During England vs West Indies Test at Trent Bridge

England crushed the West Indies in the second Test at Trent Bridge to secure an unassailable lead in the three-match series. The hosts registered a dominant 241-run victory in the match which ended on Day 4. When England’s second innings was underway in Nottingham, the on-field proceedings were halted by a bizarre interference. Out of nowhere, a unicorn-shaped balloon appeared drifting onto the field and the incident left the English crowd in splits.

A ground staff immediately rushed to the ground to remove the object from the boundary line. As soon as he tried to pick up the balloon, it was pushed further by the air. He ultimately managed to get hold of the balloon and carried it out of the field.

A clip featuring the hilarious incident was dropped on Instagram by England Cricket. The caption of the post read, “Only at the cricket.”

There have been many instances when a cricket match was paused due to rain, a pitch invasion, untimely injuries or sight screen issues. But it’s quite rare for a balloon to disrupt a game. Many cricket enthusiasts have reacted to the video from the Trent Bridge Test, dropping laughing emojis in the comment section.

England pulled off a dominant start to the second Test, producing 416 runs in the first innings. Olie Pope spearheaded the English batting attack with a 121-run knock comprising 15 boundaries and a six. Among others, Ben Duckett and Ben Stokes added 71 and 69 runs respectively to the score sheet.

Kavem Hodge shone with the bat for the West Indies. The middle-order batter struck a brilliant century while stitching a 175-run stand with Alick Athanaze, who scored 82. Joshua Da Silva played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs, helping the Caribbean side post 457 on the board.

England once again breached the 400-run mark in their second innings, riding on centuries by Harry Brook and Joe Root. The West Indies had a target of 385 runs in the fourth innings. The visitors surrendered early in front of Shoaib Basir, who fetched a five-wicket haul in 11.1 overs. Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson picked two scalps each as the West Indies were bundled out at 143 runs.
