Shakib Al Hasan Unlikely to Play Final Test for Bangladesh Due to Protests in Dhaka: Report
Earlier last month, the BCB also clarified that Shakib's appearance at the first Test against SA in Mirpur would all be contingent on the security concerns that could arise.

Happy endings only happen in movies perhaps. Shakib Al Hasan would agree with the same currently, as it seems unlikely that the Bangladesh all-rounder will return to his home Dhaka to play what was bound to be his final Test match for his nation.

Shakib, who was included in the Bangladesh squad for the first Test, previously voiced his wish to retire from Test cricket by playing out his final appearance at his home ground in Mirpur.

But now, the all-rounder himself has sadly almost come to terms with the reality that he can’t entertain the opportunity, given the political tensions in the country.

“I am not sure where I am going next, but it is almost sure that I am not going home,” Shakib informed, as per reports from ESPNcricinfo.

Shakib was a member of parliament from his hometown Magura. He was one of 147 people named in an FIR for an alleged murder during the political unrest that has ensued since August 5, the day their government effectively resigned from power after 15 years.

Earlier last month, the BCB also clarified that Shakib’s appearance at the first Test against SA in Mirpur would all be contingent on the security concerns that could arise.

“We don’t have it (Shakib’s security) in our hands. The security needs to come from the government and he will have to take his own decision. We cannot say anything about his security. We don’t have the ability to provide security to any individual,” Faruque told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

“I am neither an agency nor police or the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The security issue needs to be cleared by the government because from the board we cannot say anything.”

Despite it all, Shakib was still assured of safe passage to Dhaka, after the selectors finally gave the ‘green signal’ to select the all-rounder for the SA series at home.

But, threats of protests from a activist group who go by the name ‘Mirpur Chhatro Janata’ has now made the all-rounder and the BCB think twice.

Shakib is slated to fly in to Bangaldesh on Thursday, as per reports, but it is believed that he would not make an apperance in Dhaka as of now.
