Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal Outshine 'Bazball' to Set World Record for Fastest Team Fifty, Hundred and 150 in Test History
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 51 runs in 3 overs (18 balls), rewriting the world record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket.

India captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal launched a blistering start to India’s first innings after bowling out Bangladesh for 233 on Monday. The opening duo raced to 51 runs in just 3 overs (18 balls), setting a new world record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket. They broke England’s previous record of a 26-ball fifty, set against the West Indies earlier this year at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Both openers launched a brutal assault on the Bangladesh bowling attack. Jaiswal struck a hat-trick of boundaries in the opening over to accumulate 12 runs. The next over saw Rohit go off the mark with a gigantic six that flew over long-on and landed on the shamiana over the stands. The Indian captain followed it up with another maximum as his strike rate clocked 600.

Jaiswal ended the second over with a boundary behind square on the off-side while Rohit went on to add a third maximum of his innings as Hasan Mahmud returned into the attack. The young Indian opener then clobbered the fourth delivery over deep extra cover for a six before smashing 2 consecutive boundaries to script a world record.

Earlier in July, England raced to 50 in only 26 balls (4.2) overs, surpassing the previous recorded instant of a 27-ball fifty by them against South Africa at the Oval in 1994.

Fastest team hundred

While Rohit was cleaned up by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 4th over, Jaiswal continued punishing the Bangladesh bowlers. The 22-year-old opener notched up his half-century off just 31 balls as India went past the 100-run mark in just 61 balls (10.1 overs).

Team India shattered their own record of fastest team hundred, bettering the feat achieved last year against West Indies in Port of Spain.
