Riyan Parag Receives India Debut Cap From His Father Ahead Of 1st T20I vs Zimbabwe - WATCH
Parag is one of three players who made their T20I debut for India on Saturday against Zimbabwe in Harare during the first T20I of the ongoing five-match series.

Riyan Parag is making his T20I debut for India on Saturday (July 6) against Zimbabwe in Harare. Ahead of the start of his first international match, Riyan received his maiden India T20I cap from his father, Parag Das, who was present at the iconic stadium in Harare. The veteran of 43 first-class and 32 List A matches was invited to the field by Indian team management before the toss to give Riyan his maiden India cap.

The video of Riyan receiving his maiden India cap was shared by Sony Sports Network on X (formerly Twitter), and it is now going viral on the internet.

BCCI also took to X to share a picture of Riyan posing for a photo with his mother and father after becoming an Indian cricketer.

Riyan was picked in India’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe because of his red-hot form in the IPL 2024 for the Rajasthan Royals. In 14 innings of 16 IPL 2024 matches, 22-year-old Parag scored 573 runs, which was the third most by any batter.

Parag is one of the three Indian players who are making their T20I debut for India on Saturday. Apart from him, Abhishek Sharma and Dhruv Jurel were also included in the playing XI. While Jurel has already played three Tests for India against England in February–March 2024, Abhishek is playing for India for the first time in his career.

The 23-year-old Amritsar-born Abhishek earned a place in India’s squad after producing a super show with the bat in the IPL 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The former U-19 World Cup winner scored 484 runs with a strike rate of 204.21. He is all set to open for India alongside his childhood friend and India captain, Shubman Gill.

In his maiden T20I for India, Abhishek got a chance to bowl as well. He bowled a couple of overs and conceded 17 runs without taking a wicket.

Zimbabwe 115-9 in 20 overs

In the first T20I against India, Zimbabwe batters failed to fire and could only manage to score 115 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Former world No. 1 T20I bowler Ravi Bishnoi picked up four wickets for 13 runs in four overs for India, and two batters were sent back to the pavilion by Washington Sundar (11 runs in four overs).
