As India looks ahead to the third Test against England at Rajkot, there have been concerns regarding the form Rohit Sharma is in with the bat. The skipper is yet to score big in the series and could be a big concern for the remaining Tests.
Speaking on Rohit Sharma’s form, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel said,” I won’t say that he isn’t concentrating on scoring runs. This is not his first series as captain. He has done well as a captain before.”
However, Chopra also admitted that the Indian skipper’s dismissals in the first two Tests were due to poor shot selections rather than good bowling from the opposition. He added,” This is also true that the way he has been dismissed, those shots could have been avoided. Like in the first match where he looked to attack Jack Leach, that was an ordinary shot. Against Shoaib Bashir at Vizag for the first innings, he played a lazy shot knowing there was a fielder there. In the second innings, Anderson bowled a brilliant delivery.”

The former Indian international believes that the current England bowling attack is ‘punching above their weight.’ But he believes that if India are to win the ongoing Test series, then Rohit Sharma scoring the big runs will be crucial.
So far the Indian captain is yet to register a big total in the ongoing Test series. His best knock was at Hyderabad in the second innings where he took on the opposition to play his shots and get India closer to their target.

Chopra also went on to say,” If Rohit can bat an entire day, then the opposition will be in trouble. “The Indian skipper who can get the big runs has not been able to stay in the middle for long unlike his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal who managed to score his maiden double-century in the Vizag Test.
Rohit Sharma will captain the side once again as they aim to take the series lead with the third Test. India will be hit without the likes of Virat Kohli who remains unavailable along with fitness concerns for Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul which means that the skipper will be expected to play a bigger role with the bat.
