Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan were involved in a light-hearted interaction during the Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Irfan praised KL Rahul’s performance while highlighting his technique and batting style. He then apologised to Gavaskar for the long speech. Gavaskar, however, was not ready to accept it as he felt that Irfan made a very valid point. “Inhone mujhe sorry bola lekin main accept nahi karunga, [Even though he apologized, I will not accept],” Gavaskar said.
Irfan Pathan himself shared a video of the fun-filled interaction with Sunil Gavaskar on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. “Gratitude fills me today, and it’s not just any day—thanks to Sunny sir for the uplifting compliment. Truly made my year. Grateful,” read the caption of the post.

KL Rahul was in fine touch in the first innings of the opening Test. After recovering from injury this year, Rahul has produced some stellar performances. One of his most memorable knocks came against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 where he scored a century. Rahul had the best performance for India in the first innings of the Centurion Test as he produced a magnificent knock of 101. Despite his century in the opening fixture, Team India had to concede a defeat by an innings and 32 runs.
Kagiso Rabada picked up five wickets to bowl out India for 245 in the first innings. The Proteas, in response, registered a solid total of 408. Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen excelled for the hosts with the bat. The Indian bowlers failed to make any impact during South Africa’s innings. India had to suffer a batting collapse in the second innings, resulting in their defeat. Despite Virat Kohli smashing 76, India folded for 131.
India will play their second Test from January 3. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be aiming to draw the Test series by getting the better of the Proteas in Cape Town.
