Rohit Sharma returns to international cricket after a hiatus of a month to lead India in the 2-match Test Series against South Africa, starting December 26. The Indian skipper will be back in action for the first time since his team lost the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia in Ahmedabad.
Ahead of the first Test against the Proteas, Rohit addressed a press conference in which he was asked about his future plans, especially about the T20 World Cup next year, scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States. Though the Indian skipper didn’t reveal much, his smart answer left the reporters in splits.
Rohit said, “The desperation is about playing cricket. And I will play whenever or wherever I get an opportunity. And I know, what you want to ask… but har sawaal ka jawaab milega (All your questions will be answered).”
Want to win Test series in South Africa
Rohit was well aware of the fact that India have not won a Test series in South Africa. Speaking to the media, the Indian captain said his teammates have been working hard and want to achieve something big this time.
Rohit said he wasn’t sure if the series win in South Africa would fill up for India’s loss in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final, but he and his team will definitely look forward to winning the first-ever Test series in the Rainbow Nation.
“We have never won a series here in South Africa and if we manage to do it this time, it will be a big deal. But I’m not sure if the Test series win would compensate for the World Cup final loss. Because the World Cup is different and we can’t easily compare that to this Test series,” Rohit said.
“The Test series has its own history. And if we win this, the boys will be so happy. We have worked hard and we want something big. The entire unit is desperate to bring glory to the country. We have all the tools to succeed and I hope, we can do that,” he added
