A Malaysian couple has received praise for their kindness after gifting their two domestic helpers brand new iPhone 16. They recorded the sweet exchange and shared it on their YouTube channel.

The young couple, Jeff Leong and his wife Inthira Kalanjiam, run a joint YouTube channel called “Jeff & Inthira," which boasts around 1.9 million subscribers. The duo regularly shares updates on their daily life and travel experiences on the video platform.

In a video released on September 21, the couple surprises their two female domestic helpers with the new Apple phones. The video has already garnered over 162,254 views and has received applause for their generous gesture.

In the video, the helpers scream with excitement upon receiving the surprise package, bursting into tears of joy and laughter. One of them can be heard exclaiming, “This is unbelievable! Thank you, ma’am and sir."

In response, the couple expressed their gratitude, saying, “You are no longer just the domestic helpers, you have become a part of our family." Their two young children also feature in the touching video.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the two helpers from Indonesian, Sri and Neneng, have been with the couple for two years, managing household chores, cooking, and caring for the children.

In an interview with the publication, Inthira Kalanjiam mentioned that in Malaysia, some domestic workers are not allowed to own phones to prevent them from running away. However, she noted that Sri and Neneng are free to cook for themselves and have plenty of leisure time.

“Everyone deserves to be treated equally, no matter their job. My helpers are parents too, working hard to support their children, there is no reason to be unkind to them," Kalanjiam said.

Her husband, Leong, echoed these sentiments: “Many middle-class employers face a lot of stress from work and may unintentionally take it out on their helpers. Treat them well, and they’ll give back, kindness goes both ways."
