Lions are believed to be one of the greatest hunters in the wild and are often seen going to a great extent during their fights, whether that be to protect their young ones, fight off predators, or hunt for food. The sight of a pride of lions hunting in the wild is something very rare to witness by humans. A tourist recently got the opportunity to view a ferocious chase between the lions and impalas.
Simeone Lategan recently went to the Matusadona National Park in Zimbabwe to celebrate her father’s 70th birthday. However, their trip to the wild turned into a dangerous scenario after they got to witness the lions strategically hunting down Impala. The video of the same was shared by Latest Sightings on their YouTube channel.
The video shows a promising wildlife sighting transforming into a thrilling display of power from the lap of nature. As mentioned in the video, it was during the boat safari near Fothergill Island when Simeone and her family witnessed the terrifying scene where a pride of 22 lions hunted down the massive herd of impalas.
Narrating the incident, Simeone said, “Our boat safari had buffaloes and elephants and it was pretty amazing. But when we were heading back to the main boat, we noticed some movement and activity on Fothergill Island which was around 500 m away. It seemed to be lions from a distance and as we got closer it became clear. It was 22 lions hunting down impalas."
As the video plays, it shows the lions splitting into two groups, with half surrounding the herd while half waiting in the ambush along the water’s edge, creating major chaos among the animals. As they punched forward and scattered around in various directions, the impalas initially had an arrow escape. It seemed quite difficult for the lions to catch the agile animals; however, they did manage to catch one unlucky impala who chose the wrong escape along the water.

There are many other videos of fierce hunting sightings from inside the wild. A video that went viral last year displays a massive lion hunting down an enormous hippopotamus on the plains, creating an intense sight for the viewers.
