A bizarre case has come to the fore from Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) where a lover’s squabble turned into a quest for revenge and ended up in a criminal activity. The accused, a trans-woman, underwent a sex change operation on request of her lover. The trans-woman fell in love online with a young man living in another city. The love grew so intense that she was ready to undergo a sex change surgery. But after the surgery, she faced rejection from her lover, causing her to take revenge by setting the former’s car on fire. Let’s take a look at the incident in depth.
On March 4, a car parked outside a house caught fire in Kanpur metropolis. When the police investigated this matter, it came to light that this work was orchestrated by Deepa from Indore, formerly Deep, who was dumped by her lover from Kanpur.
Deep Tanwaniya, resident of Zanjeer Bagh of Indore, had a love affair with Vaibhav Shukla, resident of Chakeri in Kanpur. Deep fell so deeply in love with Vaibhav that on his request, he spent around Rs 50 lakh and got his sex changed. She changed from Deep to Deepa. As promised, when Deepa came to Kanpur to get married, Vaibhav refused to marry her. Deepa was hurt as well as consumed by revenge and hence set Vaibhav’s car on fire.
The foundation of this story was laid when the trans-woman met her boyfriend on Instagram in 2021. She disclosed that in 2022, she spent many lakhs on sex-reassignment surgery, which included breast augmentation, which she felt was a step towards solidifying their bond. She described how “he used to take money from me and also exploit me” in a media interview, underscoring the emotional and material abuse she suffered. Vaibhav withdrew despite her sacrifices and the promises of marriage, claiming that her inability to conceive was a deal-breaker.
Deepa chose to speak up against what she saw as treachery because she felt duped and let down. She carried out her plan, driving from Indore to Kanpur and lighting Vaibhav’s Ertiga car on fire in the Chakeri neighbourhood of Shyam Nagar. After her arrest, she broke down in tears and confessed to the media, revealing how deeply troubled she was and how far she would go to get even for her shattered heart.
