Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, was released on April 19. Within hours, Swifties dedicated themselves to dissecting every verse for hidden meanings and elusive Easter eggs. Speculations about who the songs were about dominated social media. While one section of fans believed that the album would delve into her emotional state following the end of her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, many are now wondering whether it might actually be about her rumoured encounters with Matty Healy, the frontman of the art pop band 1975.

The album has sparked a frenzy of speculation on social media, with fans attempting to decode which songs might be about Joe, Matty, and even Taylor’s current boyfriend Travis Kelce. Rumours of references to Kim Kardashian [remember the Kanye West- Taylor Swift fallout?] are also gaining traction.

On Friday, Taylor Swift dropped her 16-song album including two tracks that feature collaborations with Post Malone and Florence+ The Machine.

Reflecting on the emotional journey of the album, Swift shared a heartfelt caption, “An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter is closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

Just when fans thought they had been treated to the final reveal, the pop sensation managed to surprise everyone yet again. Swift announced on Instagram that The Tortured Poets Department would be a two-part album with an additional 15 songs.

In her Instagram post, Swift dubbed it a “2 AM surprise,” for her devoted fans. “It’s a 2 am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours,” she wrote.
