Noida police recently arrested two chain snatchers near Ajnara Le Garden crossing in Greater Noida. Despite this, the menace of petty crimes continues to plague the area. Residents are expressing growing frustration over the increasing frequency of snatchings, particularly of phones. One victim, who filed a complaint with the police, alleges that an FIR has yet to be registered, raising questions about the efficiency of the local law enforcement.
Police yet to file FIR
Abdul Salam, a security professional, shared his experience with News18.com: “On August 23, at around 8:15 pm, I was coming home from another society. On my way back home, I received a call. As I was talking on the phone, two snatchers on a bike approached from behind, grabbed my phone, and sped away. Despite my efforts and those of others, we couldn’t catch them.”
He continued, “I went to the police station the next day to file a complaint. The police said they would send a copy of the FIR, but I still haven’t received it, and it’s been over seven days.”

Salam’s iPhone was synced with his MacBook, allowing him to track its location. “The last update I got was on August 29 at 6:40 pm in Surya Nagar, Hisar, Haryana. I provided this location to both the police and the cyber crime unit in Hisar. However, they said the area was too large to search effectively. I stopped contacting them after there was no further activity on my phone,” he said.
‘I called for help, no one stopped’: Akhilesh Kumar Mishra on snatching incident
Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, a resident of Habitech Panchtatva, Greater Noida West, recounted his ordeal: “On the night of August 13, at 8:45 pm, near Royal Nest Society and in front of Samriddhi Society, in a crowded area, a biker snatched my iPhone 15 while I was walking and talking on the phone. I am 40 years old. I called out for help, but no vehicle stopped at that time,” Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, Resident of Habitech Panchtatva, Greater Noida West told News18.com.
Mishra added, “I was at the police post within ten minutes, and an FIR was filed on August 15th, but I have not yet received my phone.”

“To prevent such incidents from happening here, I have requested the police to set up a police post in the area, considering the number of people, to ensure better security,” the engineer further said.
A near miss for Tarun Chauhan
Tarun Chauhan, whose phone was almost snatched by thieves, told News18.com, “On August 14, I was talking on the phone in front of Samriddhi, opposite the Royal Nest gate, when two guys on a bike came and tried to snatch my phone. But I had a firm grip on it, so they couldn’t succeed and sped away immediately.”
This resident fell victim to phone snatching near home
“I was going to home from office in an auto. He dropped me a few metres away from my home. I insisted but he denied. I then got off from auto, took out my phone and started using it. A man from behind came and snatched my phone and went away with it,” Shubham Omar, a resident of Royal Nest told News18.com.
He continued, “Despite my efforts to follow, I couldn’t catch him.”
‘Action is underway,’ says ACP
ACP Rajeev Kumar Gupta reassured News18.com that they are doing their best to nab criminals and bring crime rate down in the area. “Criminals often come from outside to commit crimes in our area. We are actively addressing the snatching incidents. Recently, we arrested two individuals and recovered gold chains from them,” ACP Rajeev Kumar Gupta told News18.com.
