Other students, who had been in Canada for a few years now, said they also hadn’t found steady work.

A viral video that has surfaced online shows a long line of students, mostly from India, outside a restaurant in Canada, waiting for job interviews. The sight of thousands of eager job seekers, hoping to land roles as waiters and service staff, has caught widespread attention on social media. The footage has also sparked serious concern among many aspiring students and job seekers, especially from India, about the challenges of finding work in Canada.

Many students expressed their frustrations regarding the current job market. One of those standing in the queue, Agamvir Singh, noted that while many people were applying for positions, not enough interviews were being conducted. He mentioned that despite submitting applications online, many candidates were left waiting without any response. “The employer never really calls you back or emails you or anything,” Singh said.

Other students, who have been in Canada for several years, also shared their struggles in finding stable employment.

The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘@MeghUpdates,’ which has nearly 441k followers. The caption reads, “Scary scenes from Canada as 3,000 students (mostly Indian) line up for waiter & servant job after an advertisement by a new restaurant opening in Brampton. Massive unemployment in Trudeau’s Canada? Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need serious introspection!

Although the authenticity of the video cannot be independently verified, the video caused an uproar on social media.

Pointing at the hardships while pursuing the Canadian dream, one user wrote, “The worst part is that most of them are engineers, MBA holders and IT engineers who had job in India with up to 100k RS a month salary coming here for the Canada dream!! These students are depressed and struggling ! Everything that glitters is not gold !!! Stay away.”

Another user said, “Heartbreaking scenes from Brampton: 3,000 students, mostly Indian, line up for waiter jobs after a single restaurant opening. Is Trudeau’s Canada the land of opportunity or broken dreams?”

“The problem is that they will accept any job there but feel shy doing the same job here in India. Of course, working conditions and payments are far better than India in Canada,” read a comment.

Most people talked about the lack of jobs. “Alarming, if true. Canada is facing massive unemployment. Didn’t see this number of youths lined up for a job at new restaurants even in India.”

There were a few comments which were empathetic to people queuing up, “Heartbreaking reality—these students deserve better than shattered dreams and endless job lines.”

Comments on social media reflected a mix of empathy and critique regarding the situation.
