A case from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh has dominated the headlines recently. According to Local 18 Uttar Pradesh, a case has been reported from a family counselling centre at a women’s police station. In this case, a man filed a complaint mentioning that his wife consumes alcohol, and also forces him to do the same. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was stressed by the harassment from his wife and left her at her maternal home. The wife also filed a complaint, and the police directed the couple to a family counselling centre.

As per the counsellor, when the counselling started between the couple, a dispute started between them on the spot. The husband alleged that the wife drinks alcohol every day and also pressurises him to do the same. The man added that he cannot consume liquor regularly but the wife forces him to drink it every day. The husband told the centre that his spouse drinks three to four pegs at a time. On the other hand, he does not like drinking alcohol at all. The woman has accepted all the allegations levied against her by the man.

The man added that he got married to his wife two months ago. When they interacted for the first time, she talked about drinking alcohol. After this interaction, she started consuming alcohol every day and forced him to drink as well. The husband added that he became upset with his wife’s drinking habit and was forced to leave her at her maternal home. Currently, the counsellor and the team have sorted the dispute between the couple in the presence of their family members. The husband and wife agreed to live together.

A similar incident with a hilarious twist occurred in Agra in 2023. A woman was infuriated that her husband consumed alcohol regularly and fought with her. She initially tried to reason with him but he didn’t leave drinking. Fed up with the fights, one day, the woman then pretended to be sloshed and started fighting with her husband. However, instead of resolving the conflict, this escalated the dispute further which eventually reached the family counselling centre. The counsellor made the couple get into a written agreement.

In this agreement, the husband gave a written undertaking in the presence of the counsellor that he would drink only once a week. He also promised he would never fight and argue with his wife.
