There are many natural phenomena across the world and people have discovered these many times by accident or by exploration. Similarly, in 1991 a man discovered the largest cave in the world, the Son Doong, which is located in Vietnam.

Ho Khanh, a local man from Vietnam, discovered the largest cave in the world by accident in 1991 while trekking through the jungle in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. While seeking shelter from a storm, he stumbled upon the cave’s entrance. However, he didn’t explore it deeply at the time, and the location remained somewhat forgotten.

Years later, he shared his experience with Howard and Deb Limbert from the British Cave Research Association. The researchers were intrigued by his description of Son Doong Cave filled with rivers and greeneries. In 2009, the British-Vietnam Cave Expedition Team, led by Howard Limbert, officially surveyed and measured Hang Son Doong. They announced it as the world’s largest natural cave, with a volume of 38.5 million cubic meters. In 2013, the Guinness World Records recognised it as the largest natural cave.

A video of the cave shared on Instagram went viral. It was posted by the account @danielkordan who often visits such mysterious places and shares his experience on his social media account. The video has garnered 1.1 million views. Many people have shared their feedback in the comments section. Many users wanted to visit this beautiful place after seeing the video. For many, the Son Doong cave feels unreal.
