Elon Musk Calls Microblogging Platform Twitter Instead of X, Slip-up Draws Reactions
Elon Musk referred to X as Twitter and the slip-up has drawn mixed reactions from netizens, with many referring it as the 'biggest rebranding failure'.

Elon Musk, who led the rebranding from Twitter to X, might still be adjusting to the new name – or perhaps he just prefers the original – as he recently referred to the platform by its former name. This slip-up quickly caught the attention of the Internet, with many saying that the “rebranding is going well”.

The richest person in the world shared a post about the ban on X in Brazil where he referred to the platform as Twitter. He tweeted a meme showing a man lying on a large sum of banknotes with the text, “POV: VPN companies after Brazil banned Twitter.”

Musk’s post on the platform soon went viral with over 65 million views, and still counting. Many even took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.

“The rebranding is going so well that even the CEO still calls it Twitter,” said an individual.

Another said, “So you agree it’s Twitter.”

“He’s still calling it Twitter. LOL,” joined a third.

A fourth corrected him, saying, “Elon, the app is called X, not Twitter.”

Here’s what this X user posted.

Another started a poll asking if it is Twitter or X.

“They banned which app exactly?” asked yet another after Musk’s Twitter gaffe.

Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022 in $44 billion deal and rebranded it to X in July 2023. He also replaced the company’s iconic blue bird symbol with a new black-coloured X logo. In May this year, he fully migrated Twitter.com to X.com. When users visited twitter.com in May, they were redirected to x.com. A pop-up notification greeted those who logged on to the microblogging site via browsers: “Welcome to x.com! We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.”

However, many still refer to the platform as Twitter and its posts as tweets. News websites that mention X often enclose a clarification in parentheses, noting that the social media platform was formerly known as Twitter.
