Xiaomi to Launch Budget Android Smartphone on Feb 14; Is it The Redmi 5 or The Redmi Note 5?
Xiaomi is launching its first smartphone for the year 2018 on February 14. There are two possibilities: Redmi 5 or the Redmi Note 5.

Xiaomi has announced the unveiling of its very first product of the year 2018. The company has recently sent out media invites for the launch of its next smartphone in the country and in all probability, it is going to be the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. This speculation is built upon the fact that the budget smartphones were launched in China back on December 8. Though this has not been confirmed by the Chinese smartphone maker till now. Other reports suggest that the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone might be the successor to its widely popular, Redmi Note 4 and be called the Redmi Note 5. All that is known for now is that the smartphone will be the fifth successor to its series. In either of the scenarios, the Xiaomi smartphone to be launched on February 14 will be a budget offering, under a price tag of Rs 12,000.

In case Xiaomi is coming up with the Redmi 5, the Redmi 5 Plus might also be launched alongside. In terms of specifications Redmi 5 sports 5.7-inch HD+ (1440x720p) with 2.5D curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor. The phone comes with a 2+1 card slot that supports simultaneous use of two 4G nano-SIM cards and a microSD card up to 128GB. Redmi 5A houses a 3000mAh long-lasting battery and comes equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and a f/2.2 aperture. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The lower storage variant carries a 2GB RAM and a 16GB internal storage.

On the other hand, Redmi 5 Plus carries 5.99-inch full HD+ (2160x1080p) with 2.5D curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio same as Redmi 5. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processors and houses 4,000mAh battery unlike Redmi 5 which backs 3,300mAH battery. Talking about optics the Redmi 5Plus sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and a f/2.2 aperture. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter just like Redmi 5. On storage terms, the device packs 16GB/32GB + expandable up to 128GB via microSD.

On the other hand, the company might launch the Redmi Note 5. Though all we know about the Redmi Note 5 as of now is totally based upon a recent leak of its renders. As per the renders, the Redmi Note 5 might sport a full-metal body with a fingerprint sensor located at the back. It is expected to come with a 5.99-inch 1080p+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is also expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, along with a 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage. It might run Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 and be powered by a 4100 mAh battery with fast charging support.

The optics of the smartphone is expected to comprise of a dual camera setup at the back with a 16-megapixel sensor along with a 5-megapixel sensor. As per reports, the Redmi Note 5 might come in three colour variants: Blue, Black and Gray.
