Microsoft's Xbox division unveiled the retail form of its well-anticipated console at E3 2017 on June 11, with the Xbox One X to launch on November 7 worldwide alongside action game "Crackdown 3" and priced at $499 USD.
Known as Project Scorpio since the console's debut a year before at E3 2016, the Xbox One X represents Microsoft's focus on providing the most powerful home console experience to date.
Its technical specifications had been announced in April 2017, making it clear that the Xbox One X would outdo the PlayStation 4 Pro, its nearest console rival, in terms of raw power.
A 6 teraflops GPU clocked at 1.172GHz, 12GB of GDDR5 memory, and 326GB/s of memory bandwidth assured it of that; the specifications provide players and developers with 4K ultra high resolution, Dolby Atmos sound, HDR and Wide Color Gamut, while the Xbox One X supports 4k UHD Blu-ray playback.
The console represents a new start for Xbox, which found itself confounded at E3 2013 when the PlayStation 4 emerged with a more powerful architecture, less expensive pricetag, and a more favorably received cadre of executives presenting the console and their own enthusiasm for gaming. Also read: Microsoft Xbox One X Launched; Claims to be The Most Powerful Gaming Console
It is designed to be completely compatible with existing Xbox One games, controllers, and accessories, while offering enhancements in terms of visuals on both 4K and standard HD displays, as well as faster loading times.
As both the most powerful and smallest Xbox ever, the Xbox One X launches at $499 USD during a period of intense activity for the video game industry.
The release of November 7's Xbox One release "Crackdown 3" is being timed specifically to bolster the Xbox One X's appeal, while "Forza Motorsport 7" is being made available a month beforehand in October.
Updates to "Gears of War 4," "Forza Horizon 3," "Minecraft," "Resident Evil 7," "Final Fantasy 15," "Rocket League" are also promised at launch.
Sony's PlayStation team has an opportunity to respond during its own E3 2017 presentation, taking place June 12 from 6pm PST.Also read: Assassin's Creed Origins Debuts at E3 2017; Set For Oct 27 Launch
