Windows user? Ditch Apple QuickTime quickly, warns US Department of Homeland Security
Apple is no longer offering support for the PC version of its multimedia player.

Apple is no longer offering support for the PC version of its multimedia player and that is getting United States Department of Homeland Security worried.

So much so that it has issued a statement warning users of the risks of using software that is no longer getting security patches or updates.

"Using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. Potential negative consequences include loss of confidentiality, integrity, or availability of data, as well as damage to system resources or business assets. The only mitigation available is to uninstall QuickTime for Windows," said the organisation in a statement.

Regardless of a program's creator or its intended use, once its life cycle is complete it can open up a computer to cyberthreats. But the reason that Homeland Security is going so far as to issue a statement and instructions about how to uninstall Quicktime is because a number of zero-day exploits have already been identified in the Windows version.

So, if QuickTime is still running somewhere on your PC, here is information explaining how to remove it sooner, rather than later

What's your reaction?
