WhatsApp is reportedly bringing a new set of updates to its WhatsApp Web application. The picture-in-picture mode, launched earlier for the WhatsApp mobile application is now making its way to the Web application of the chat platform. In addition to this, the updates will also carry the functionality for sending a private reply to a particular user for a message that is sent across in a group. The confirmation for the updates comes from a report by WABetaInfo, according to which, the WhatsApp team has included these two updates in its recently submitted ‘version 0.1.7315’ of WhatsApp Web.
The ‘picture-in-picture’ mode comes as a video-centric upgrade and will allow users to watch videos shared on their WhatsApp chats in a separate pop-up screen with the functionality to play/ pause, control volume and adjust the slider on the timeline of the video. The ‘picture-in-picture’ mode was introduced to the WhatsApp for mobiles back in September and in a similar fashion, will allow users to open the videos in a new window on their desktops/ laptops as well.
Another feature to be included in the upgrade is a ‘Reply privately’ option that will allow users to reply to a member of a group privately, in response to a message shared by the group member in the group. As per WABetaInfo screenshot, the Reply privately option will appear as an icon next to the existing ‘Reply’ and ‘Forward’ options on the WhatsApp interface. In addition to the WhatsApp Web, the feature is also expected to roll out on the Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp.
Currently, the exact date of the rollout of these features is unknown.
