The Indian government continues to alert users about major security alerts with different platforms. Recently, it warned Apple and Google users about concerns with iOS and Chrome, respectively, and there’s a new warning this week, now focused on Google’s ChromeOS users.
The operating system runs on Chromebooks which is a Windows alternative for laptops and is mostly powered by cloud applications. The security warning once again comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and the high rating for the concern means people should act on the problem right away.
ChromeOS Security Warning From Indian Govt: What It Says
The CERT-In bulletin gives details on the issue and how it can impact the ChromeOS users. “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in ChromeOS which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted platform,” CERT-In explains.
Further highlighting the details of the issue, “these vulnerabilities exist in ChromeOS due to Integer overflow in Skia and Use after free condition in Garbage collection, Mojo and WebAudio components. An attacker could exploit this issue by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted website,” the security agency adds.
The security issue affects Chrome devices that are running the ChromeOS LTS channel version prior to 114.0.5735.343. So, the best thing to prevent this issue from becoming a major problem for your device is to update to the latest software patch that has thankfully been already issued by Google’s ChromeOS team.
There is no doubt that the CERT-In has become extremely proactive with these security alerts and reaching out to the public and informing them about the possible risks if you are affected by the vulnerabilities.
