Google explained that modern-day smartphones are capable of providing richer and reliable experiences.
New Delhi: Those of you who relied heavily on the SMS alerts Google sent you for your next meeting or anniversary are sure to have difficult times ahead as the search giant is not going to send you notifications through texts for its Calendar app from June 27.
The search giant explained the reason for the shift on its product support page, saying that the service was launched before smartphones entered and today the mobile devices are capable of providing richer and reliable experiences, even offline.
The change is not going to affect Google Apps for Work, Education and Government customers.
Before the SMS service shuts, you can choose an alternative to get notifications. Google suggests using the Calendar app for iOS and Android.
