ULFA calls off its 12-hour Assam Bandh on Monday after the visit of PM Manmohan Singh was rescheduled.

Guwahati: The Paresh Barua-led faction of the ULFA has called off its 12-hour Assam Bandh on Monday after the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was rescheduled.

The outfit has called off its shutdown since the Prime Minister is not coming to Assam on Monday, ULFA Publicity in charge Arunodoy Dohotiya said in an e-mail to PTI on Sunday.

Bandh would, however, be observed on whichever day the Prime Minister or any other representative of the union government visits the state in the future, the ULFA warned.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Prime Minister's visit to the state to campaign for the Congress in the assembly polls was yet to be finalised though tentatively it has been fixed for April 2 and April 7.

The ULFA had called the bandh to protest the Prime Minister's visit alleging Singh had "failed to keep his written promise to discuss all the core issues for political solution" of Assam conflict.
