New Delhi: The Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) on Monday withdrew from the UPA-Left Coordination Committee, saying it didn’t want to support an “anti-people” government.
"We are not happy with their economic policies and the government is not changing its position despite our opposition. So we have decided to withdraw from the UPA-Left Coordination Committee," said senior RSP leader Abani Roy.
"We are dissociating with the functioning of the government which has become alienated from the people. We have come to a conclusion that providing support to the government is not conducive," said RSP General Secretary T Chandrachoodan.
RSP, a junior member of the four-party Left Front, is the first outside supporter of the government to withdraw from the UPA-Left Coordination Committee. The party is part of the Left governments in West Bengal and Kerala and has three members in Lok Sabha.
The party will continue to be on the UPA-Left Committee on nuclear deal.
The UPA-Left Coordination Committee is headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and has representation from Congress and the Left parties.
