Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan took a snipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday by claiming that the state attracts maximum number of investors. He said, "Maharashtra is number one in manufacturing, Special economic zones and employment. We also attract maximum investors."
The remarks came at the inauguration of a Special Economic Zone project in Navi Mumbai.
The comment was bound to irk the Bharatiya Janata Party as Modi has been credited with making Gujarat a highly developed state when he was the chief minister.
Modi had arrived to lay foundation stone for Rs 4,000-crore port-based multi-product special economic zone at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
