Mumbai Indians (MI) name Luke Wood as replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff who has been ruled out from the upcoming season of IPL.
“Unfortunately there was a freak accident at training last week which resulted in my leg being broken. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, just a very unlucky incident. I have loved being a part of the MI Family and I am absolutely gutted to be missing this years IPL. Wishing Mumbai Indians a successful season and hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to be back next year,” Behrendorff said wrote on Instagram.
Wood – a left-arm pacer – has played 5 T20Is for England, in addition to 2 ODIs, and has 8 T20I wickets against his name. Wood will join MI for INR 50 Lac.

The injury isn’t serious enough to merit a surgery but Behrendorff has been given a timeline of eight weeks to regain full fitness meaning he’s also in danger of missing the 2024 T20 World Cup slated to start in June.
MI, the five-time IPL winners, are also sweating on injuries to bowlers Dilshan Madushanka and Gerald Coetzee ahead of their first game of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans on March 24.
Madhushanka suffered a hamstring injury during the recent ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It has ruled him out of the remainder of the Bangladesh tour and he may be unavailable for the initial few matches of IPL as well.
On the other hand, Coetzee is recovering from a groin injury he picked up during the Boxing Day Test against India that ruled him out from the SA20. The South African pacer has already reached India and is currently being looked after the MI medical team.
