Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday released list of 41 candidates for ensuing Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, making its debut in the poll fray in the southern state.
JMM Vice-President and former Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto said neither the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu had ever bothered to take up the issues of Sri Lankan Tamils or the fishermen community.
While Sri Lankan Tamils have remained an oppressive lot, the fishermen of the community continued to be a target of Sri Lankan army whenever they mistakenly ventured into the sea water of bordering areas, Mahto said, adding these issues would be made major poll plank by the JMM in its campaign in Tamil Nadu.
He said while several fishermen had fallen prey to Sri Lankan army bullets, the state government appeared reluctant to take up the issue with the Union government.
Admitting that winning a seat or two would be an achievement for JMM, Mahto claimed that the party was getting a good response across the state.
The JMM alleged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, K Karunanidhi-led DMK and Jayalalitha-headed AIADMK were wooing voters promising gifts if voted which was against model code.
He also appreciated the Election Commission's move to implement election code of conduct strictly in the state.
