New Delhi: It's history in the making for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, as it's youngest Chief Minister to date gets ready to assume office.
Thirty-eight-year-old Omar Abdullah's swearing in marks the return to power of Kashmir's first family. Omar's father Farooq Abdullah and grandfather Sheikh Abdullah have both occupied the same post in the past.
The current marriage of convenience between the National Conference and the Congress brings back memories the famous accord between the Abdullahs and the Gandhis after the 1987 elections.
However, the third generation Abdullah - Omar - invited the Centre's wrath when in 2006 he met then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad, making him the first mainstream politician from Kashmir to do so.
Omar Abdullah has also held key portfolios in the past which include union ministerial profiles for External Affairs as well as Commerce and Industry.
He is married to Payal Abdullah and has two sons.
His passionate speech during trust vote in Parliament last July was widely appreciated.
