New Delhi: AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa was missing from the Third Front meet at Bahujan Samaj Party chief Maywati's home in New Delhi on Sunday evening.

Sources told CNN-IBN that Jaya was upset over the casual manner with which an invitation was sent to her at the last minute on Saturday night.

However, the AIADMK supremo has now sought to underplay her absence calling it a mere communication gap. Jaya also evaded questions on the Third Front's prime-ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat on Monday also sought to underplay her absence saying that Jayalalithaa was in "constant communication with them" and was involved in the alliance of non-Congress and non-Bharatiya Janata Party parties.

"The AIADMK is involved with us. She was not here at the meeting, but we are in constant communication with them," Karat told reporters after releasing his party's manifesto on the elections.

AIADMK's representative and Rajya Sabha member V Maithreyan attended the gathering of the Left parties and their alliance partners on Sunday afternoon. However, he too did not attend the dinner hosted by Mayawati in which the Third Front discussed the Lok Sabha election strategies.
