Gandhi scion Rahul wants to end dynasty politics
Congress MP admits being a member of Gandhi-Nehru family helped him.

Rampur, Uttarakhand: Politics is easier if one belongs to the Gandhi-Nehru family but politics should be above dynasties, scion of India first political family Rahul Gandhi has said.

"I would not have been here, if I was not from a political family. If you do not have money, a family or friends, you cannot enter politics," Rahul said in Rampur on Monday.

Rahul said it was "easy" for him to get an entry in politics as his "father was in politics, grandmother was in politics and great grandfather too was in politics” but he wanted to change this.

Rahul’s planned to bring change by introducing elections for posts in National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the Indian Youth Congress, which are two of his party’s youth wings.

"In India, political parties have a nomination system in their parties. Who holds which position is decided at the top. In this system, the voice of the youth is drowned," he said.

Leadership positions in the two organisations were now open for all and acquaintance with senior leaders is not important to become an office-bearer. "By December, we will complete the election process in Uttarakhand and Punjab and then in the rest of the country," Rahul said.

Nobody moved in the NSUI without a "sifarish" (recommendation) but “you will be able to change the system if you join us (NSUI)," he told a group of woman college students.
