After the launch of the Congress Nyay Patra on Friday, the party’s Telangana unit is set to sound the Lok Sabha poll bugle at their Jana Jatara (Garjana) meeting to be held in Tukkuguda on April 6.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge along with senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will participate in the event.
The public meeting is being held at the same premises where the Congress had its Vijayabheri Sabha on September 17 last year. The party had announced its Six Guarantees for Telangana in that meeting. Barely two months later, it notched up a landslide victory in the assembly elections.
In Saturday’s event, the Congress leaders are expected to explain their Nyay Patra and appeal to the voters to make them victorious once again. Over the past month, there has been an exodus of cadres from other parties to the Congress, especially from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
With strong candidates in most of the state’s 17 parliamentary seats, the grand old party is seeking to mobilise more support for itself through the public meeting. As many as 10 lakh people are expected to be present at the event to be held at the Tukkuguda grounds spread over 60 acres. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and other ministers have been inspecting the arrangements for the massive meet.
During one such inspection, deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said that it would be a historic congregation.
“The Congress is the only hope for the protection of democracy in the country. Telangana belongs to all sections of people and our party will ensure that every citizen here lives with freedom and independence. The AICC leadership will showcase the Telangana Congress government as a model for effective implementation of promises made in the election manifesto in the assembly elections,” the deputy CM said.
Mallu appealed to people from Adilabad to Khammam, and Warangal to Mahbubnagar, to come in large numbers to the Tukkuguda meeting and “announce to the country that they stand for democracy and protection of people’s rights through the Jana Jatara Sabha”.
Revanth Reddy also held a review meeting with ministers to make the event a success.
