UGC Invites Applications From HEIs For Distance, Online Courses, Registrations Begin on October 10
UGC has asked universities to submit applications for open and online courses for the 2023–24 academic year. The online portal for submitting the applications will run fro October 10-31

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recently released a notice inviting eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to apply for recognition to offer courses under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and/or Online mode for the academic session 2023-24. Meanwhile, the academic year will begin from February 2024 and onwards.

“UGC invites fresh online applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) as per Regulation 3 (A) and Regulation 3 (B) (b) of UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and its amendments for recognition of programmes under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and/or Online mode for academic year 2023-24, academic session beginning February 2024 and onwards,” read the official notice.

As per the notification, the online portal for submitting the applications will open on Tuesday, October 10, and close on October 31. The Higher Educational Institutions are requested to submit their applications on the official website at deb.ugc.ac.in. Those who are submitting the applications via post need to send the form along with the original affidavit and annexure to The Deputy Secretary, Distance Education Bureau, UGC, 35, Feroze Shah Road, New Delhi -110001. It is important to note that the deadline for sending the applications via post is November 15.

For the academic year 2023–2024, eligible HEIs who have previously received UGC accreditation to offer ODL and/or online programmes can submit their applications for recognition of any new courses. The HEIs are also advised to go to the UGC DEB website at deb.ugc.ac.in to pay the required application fee and to read about any upcoming announcements or updates in this respect.

It is to be noted that the mere submission of an application should not be taken as a grant of approval and that all applications will be scrutinised in light of the standards outlined in the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and its amendments.

Earlier this week, the UGC sent out a notification about the existence of fake institutions. A thorough list of 20 fake educational institutions functioning in various states throughout India has been made public by the UGC, with Delhi having the largest concentration—eight of these institutes are there.

Universities from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are included in this list of universities from a range of states. This list’s main goal is to aid in the detection of these false institutions and to inform parents and students about their presence.
