A major tragedy was averted after a man who opened fire inside the Sealdah Rajdhani Express was arrested and made to deboard the train on Thursday. No one was injured in the incident, Railway police said.
The passenger, identified as 41-year-old Harvinder Singh, had boarded the Delhi-bound train from Dhanbad station in Jharkhand. According to Eastern Railways officials, an argument ensued between the accused passenger and the coach attendant following which, he fired from his pistol, a Hindustan Times report said.
“None injured. He was deboarded at Koderma and handed over to state police,” the officials said.
Police said they were looking into possibilities of the man being intoxicated when he opened fire inside the train. His blood samples have been sent for testing, the police added.
A similar incident took place in July 2023 when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable opened fire at his colleagues inside the moving train killing four people.
