A fresh set of debate has come up in connection with the ‘cash for query’ row after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday broke her silence on the case involving Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and said that all these proceedings will help Moitra become popular.
Warning the Bharatiya Janata Party of a tit-for-tat move in case of central agencies continuously arresting leaders of TMC, Banerjee said that if they arrest four of her people, then she’ll also get eight of their people considering that she has cases against them.
In attacking the BJP, the TMC supremo also said, “Their plan is to remove Mahua Moitra (from Lok Sabha). This will help her become more popular before the elections. What she used to speak inside (Parliament), now she will speak outside…”
The Bengal CM’s comments have sparked a row of reactions from BJP leaders. BJP leader and party’s national IT cell convener, Amit Malviya posted on his X handle and said that the West Bengal chief minister has always defended her party’s criminals and corrupt members, only “till the time it is convenient”.
“Thereafter she discards them with vengeance. Partha Chaterjee, Anubroto Mondal, Jyotipriya Mallick, Manik Bhattacharta, Jiban Krishna Saha… the list is endless. All of them are in jail. Several others are either out on bail or under investigation, including her nephew,” Malviya said.

The BJP leader said that Banerjee’s support to Mahua Moitra is “hardly a surprise”, adding that her comments on the query bringing Moitra fame reflects “Mamata Banerjee’s own insecurities as a leader, whose political fortunes are on a decline”.
He said that the end of Banerjee’s broken regime is the “best news West Bengal awaits”.
Taking a jibe at Bengal CM’s comments on Moitra, another BJP leader Nishikant Dubey said that if we look at ‘Mamata Ji’s theory’ then if mafia leader Dawood Ibrahim contested from Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh then 99 per cent he will win the election.
“If Dawood Ibrahim also contests from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, then I think there is a 99% chance that he will win the election. So, if Mamata Ji’s theory is correct, this means that Dawood Ibrahim is not a traitor,” Dubey said in his comment.
The BJP MP went on to say that this cash for query row is a huge conspiracy referring to Moitra’s credentials being used to log in from multiple places. “She (Mahua Moitra) didn’t provide login credentials to just Darshan Hiranandani. It was logged in from multiple places—Delhi, Bengaluru, San Francisco. This is a big conspiracy…” Dubey was quoted as saying by ANI.
He also took a swing at the INDI alliance, saying that they have a history of liking “corrupt, traitorous individuals like Dawood Ibrahim”.
Dubey had submitted a complaint to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla with grave allegations of breach of parliamentary privilege against Moitra and demanded an inquiry committee, seeking her immediate suspension from the Parliament.
The BJP MP accused Moitra of taking “bribes” from a businessman — Darshan Hiranandani — to ask questions targeting Modi government in Parliament. He also requested the Lower House Speaker to constitute an “inquiry committee” to look into the charges against her.
